— frequently asked questions —
I’m not very good with video games. Can I still come?
Yes! Those who don’t wish to use the controller often play the most important role—backseat driving!
Is food really served during the show?
Yes! We want to make sure the audience has everything they need to game the night away. So every performance of asses.masses includes food in the ticket price. Over the four intermissions, you’ll get a delicious combo of heathy and junk food: from candy to fruits & vegetables, plus a vegetarian + vegan friendly dinner (it’s a show about animals after all)—in the past these have included falafel, samosas, soups, rice, and/or pastas. And yes there is dessert too. If you have any dietary restrictions and are coming to the show, you can always contact the festival or theatre to confirm what is being served that day.
Is the asses.masses ACCESSIBLE for all audiences?
All performances of asses.masses are ‘extra live’, which means that audience members are free to make noise, call out, eat, drink, enter/exit, and move about as needed. That said, the show is not particularly conducive for audience members who have limited vision, due to its heavy use of written text on the screen.
Is asses.masses appropriate for ALL AGES?
Not necessarily. It features coarse language, simulated sex between donkeys, simulated violence and murder, and strong revolutionist rhetoric. In most towns, we’re 14+.
How long is asses.masses?
asses.masses has a flexible duration depending on how whether the spectators/players prioritize the main narrative or the side quests, and how long the audience decides to take for intermission breaks. The show usually runs for approx. 7.5 hours—a full work day.
What language can I experience the show in?
The story of the show is told via visual text. Originally written in English, asses.masses is also tours the world in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, and (soon) Turkish and Japanese.
